In March of 1765, the British Parliament imposed the Stamp Act on all American Colonists. This Act had many more to follow and with an influx of taxes there was an increase of anger among the colonists.
Why Did Britain Pass this Act?
In order to pay for the hundreds of British troops being stationed in the American Colonies, Britain decided to impose a new tax on the American colonists. This tax helped provide for the British troop's food, stay, and work.
What did the Stamp Act do?
The new tax affected all American colonists harshly. It demanded that every piece of printed paper used had a large tax on it. This included hip's papers, legal documents, licenses, newspapers, publications, and playing cards. .This was one of the Acts that affected many merchants and commoners.
